In garbage covered Bekka Valley stood 18 year old Nora.
I have never felt so lonely in my life. I know I have my aunt and cousins....but I miss my parents.
As Nora leaves her dead family behind, she realizes she has lost everybody she loved. She sobbed in fear, knowing that those sniper targeting cars controlled by the rebels may come back.
1 year earlier in Aleppo, Syria
Mom.....Dad...Wake Up. Please. I beg you, PLEASE.
With nothing, literally nothing Nora headed back home where nothing awaited. Although her parents owned a small food shop, they were extremely poor. Their shop had been bombed weeks prior. They had no food. They had no water. Her family was in the middle of escaping the civil war(Hassan) and hardships. Unfortunately they didn't get far. She felt survivor guilt.
When Nora arrived at ruins of her home town, she noticed her aunt mya and nora informed her the tragic news.
Mya: Come with us. We are heading to Bekka Valley. Your uncle has been killed but I must take my kids to safety. It's not an official refuge camp, but it's the closest. If we stay here, we die. Nora: Thank you auntie, but I can't. My parents wanted to reach America. I must do that in their honor.
And so Nora left.
Days have passed.Weeks. Months have passed. little by little Nora was losing hope. Until the day the letter from the embassy she had been longing for arrived.
"Dear Nora..... We regret to inform you that your request for a visa under refuge status has been denied....."
Tears formed around Nora's eyes. The last shred of hope she held on to had been eradicated. This was it. All of a sudden her life became a blur.
After realizing there was nothing else to do but go to the refuge camp, and went on the journey to meet her aunt. The only remainder of her family.
Although it is overcrowded , it is better than back home. Maybe one day this war will be over.
