  • Hi I'm Jenny, and I will explain what isMetamorphisim.
  • A metamorphism is a process of mineral assemblage and texture variation that results from the physical-chemical changes of solid rocks.
  • There are 2 types of metamorphism that is "Regional Metamorphism" and the "Contact Metamorphism"
  • Metamorphism is comes from ancient Greek words "meta" for change and "morph" for form.in metamorphism, rocks are not actually melt. They become more dense and more compact.
  • There are 2 classification of Metamorphic rocks the " Foliated Metamorphic Rocks" and "Non-Foliated Metamorphic Rocks".The FOLIATED have mineral flakes appear to be parallel to the rock and look layer. When the rock break, a thin rock fragment will result.another is NON-FOLIATED that mineral flakes appear to be randomly oriented without obvious banding and have a granular appearance. When the rocks break, there will be no layers and they will not flake apart into thin layers.
  • in foliated there are 4 examples of rock, the slate, phyllite, schist and gneiss.
  • And the examples of the non-foliated are: hornfels, quartzite, marble and metaconglomerate.
  • These are some knowledge that we can easily know. Thank you for your reading!
