Holden decides to go the Lavender Room and tris to buy a drink, he is trying to act older than he is and fit in even though he dislikes the people. he meets three women, and starts up a conversation with them. He doesn't like two of them, but enjoys the company of one. He ends up geeting struck withthe check for all of them, which deepens his dislike for society.

Maurice and Sunny are at the door and trying to take five dollars from Holden, but Holden refuses and insulted Maurice as a goodam dirty moron, which angered Maurice, so Maurice punches Holden and Holden begins to cry.
In the pitch black dark of the late night early morning, after Holden is drunk, he finds his way through the park to the lagoon. he sits down on a bench and shivers, thinking about maybe he'll get pneumonia and die just like Allie did. Holden also imagines his funeral and how all his aunts would come, like they did for Allie's funeral.
Holden sits around in the pouring rain, watching Phoebe ride the merry go around. He says he's near crying, that's how happy it makes him watch Phoebe going around and around on the merry go around. He also promised that he is not going to leave anymore.
