- Hello, my name is Robert de La Salle. I am a French nobleman. I rode on canoes and ships. I was a explorer. I had big dreams to find new trade route and make new settlements.
- The reason I set out on this expedition is because I was looking to trade to gain not only personal wealth, but I also wanted French empire trading posts, settlements and forts. But King Louis XIV told me I had to go myself. Then I finally set out on my journey after trying to get enough money for my exploration.
- Were here, Hooray!
- Well, now we need to go and find trade routes and make settlements!
- In 1681, I set out on my expedition to the Mississippi River on my canoe from France. Next, in 1684 I sailed to North America with lot's of other settlers. I sailed for 6 months across the Atlantic Ocean.
- Hmm, how about we name this place Louisiana.
- Yes, I like that name.
- I am French, I was born in France and have lived there my whole life. But then I traveled to North America and I stayed there for a long time.
- Now what I wanted and what I was looking for was to find new trade routes, and make new forts and settlements. Almost to colonize in North America.
- Here is one fun fact about me, I actually named the state of Louisiana! I know crazy right. Well I was on a canoe and I passed upon this reigon and decided to call is Louisiana.
