Hamlet is haunted by his father's ghost And he discovers that it was Claudius, his uncle, that poured poison in his ear but everyone thought it was a snake. 'Murder most foul'.
Hamlet decides to trick Claudius into making him look guilty. He decides to do by changing the plot in a play that some actors are putting on to make it be like the real story. 'There is a play tonight before the king. One scene of it comes near to circumstance'. Claudius leaves the room panicked.
Hamlet now knows that Claudius is guilty and can't decide what to do with his life. Whether he should live or die. 'To be or not to be; that is the question.
Hamlet talks to Ophelia. He feels like the world is a bad place. He tells her that he doesn't love her and that she should go to a nunnery 'Get thee to a nunnery'.
Hamlet finds Claudius praying and comes up behind him and tries to kill him but decides against it as Claudius is praying. he fears as he is in a religious state he will go to heaven. he decides to kill him when Claudius is drunk, swearing and gambling.
Gertrude calls Hamlet into her chambers. Polonius hides behind the curtain to eavesdrop. When Hamlet hears a noise he stabs at the curtain, thinking it is Claudius. When he discovers it is Polonius he has killed he shows no remorse. 'I took thee for thy better'.
