  • The study took place in the VU University of Amsterdam. The main study was carried out in a laboratory conditions. Volunteers were recruited by flyers posters and got paid seven Euros or were given course credits.
  • Particpants were briefed on a previous study (fake) in which 6 participants in Rome experienced sensory deprivation. They were told that the university wanted to repeat the study. Participants were asked to give the names and contact details of some friends who they think would take part in the study. The experimenter left the room for 3 minutes to allow participants to reflect.
  • Hmmmmm
  • Participants were then asked to make their decision. In the room was a computer for them to use to write their statement, a mailbox and the Research Committee forms. Participants were told to be enthusiastic when writing their statement and were asked to include two of the following adjectives among 'superb', 'exciting, 'incredible', and 'great' -SEGI).
  • After they had made their decision, the participant was invited back into the first room, to complete 2 personality tests (HEXACO & SVO). After which they were debriefed and their informed consent was given.
  • Thank you for your time!
