  • The U.S. bought the land. This land from France to the U.S around 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River. They bought the land for $15 dollars.
  • Into Grizzly Country
  • Is he still coming?!
  • Yes run! I'll shoot him!
  • Lewis and Clark began their journey in St. Louis. They started their journey on May 13, 1803. They were very well supplied. They brought dozens of each category including, transportation, camping equipment, clothing, medicine, arms, and many more.
  • Deadly Crossing
  • Our food supplies are running out, and people are freezing!
  • The first Indian encounter went well, they both exchanged gifts. Although they knew that with the Sioux they would not have it that easy. Jefferson warned them to have a friendly experience with them because they were very powerful.
  • Lewis and Clark Return
  • Finally Home!!
  • Entering the Grizzly country, the indians had warned them. Lewis although was not impressed. He was not impressed because the Indians only had bow and arrows. Although on April 20 his mind changed , he got chased 80 yards by a grizzly.
  • Snow began to fall, which cutted the food supply short. Men and horses were in starvation. They ended up eating three colts. They were down in Bitterroot Valley
  • The journey ended in 1806. It lasted for two years, four months, and ten days. They discovered over 300 new species. They also were the first to reach the Pacific over land.
