The kind fat man was George M. Helmholtz, a man of forty, head of the music department of Lincoln high school and director of the band. He dreamed of leading as fine a band as there was on the face of earth. And each year the dream came true.
Cool, do you want a lift to school Jim?
This is my brother in law's kid, Jim! His mother passed away and his Dad left him with me. Yes he does!!
The car door opened and slammed. and Jim was gone
Like listening to music? My corner of the universe happens to be the air around my band! i can fill it with music!

Helmholtz took Jim's boots which made Jim begin to lose his pride and courage. Now Helmholtz began to realize the futility of men and their treasures, meaning the trumpet couldn't buy a soul for him.
Do you care about anything besides those boots? Here's my trumpet, the dearest thing I own, go ahead smash it!
