  • Here we learn about the narrators wife, and his many pets. His wife is slightly afraid of the cat because of superstition. We learn about his cat Pluto and that he is in jail and really worried. He starts to tell a story about his past.
  • Climax
  • The narrator now has a problem with alcohol, and is violent at times. He cuts his cat's eye out after it bites him.
  • Falling Action
  • He later kills the cat out of anger and hangs it. Soon after his house catches on fire and he loses everything and becomes poor. He finds a house to live in later.
  • Resolution
  • After the narrator moves into his new home, he is sitting on a chair drunk, and he sees a cat that looks almost the same as the cat he killed. He keeps it and his wife begins to love it.
  • While him and his wife were walking down the stairs into the basement, the cats suddenly runs out in front of him and trips him. He was about the kill the cat with a nearby axe, when his wife stopped him. He tried to find the cat but couldn't. He later hid the body in a wall.
  • Finally, police inspect his house after the murder. While they are inspecting they hear meows. They go over to the wall and the narrator then raps his cane on the wall. The corpse falls out, with the live cat on top of it. The police are shocked and arrest the narrator.
