-Elie, when he arrived at the concentration camp stated "In front of us, those flames. In the air, the smell of burning flesh...we have arrived. In Birkenau."
-Elie, when he experienced the most tragic sight in his life said "Not far from us, flames, huge flames, were rising from a ditch. Something was being burned there. A truck drew close and unloaded its hold: small children. Babies!"
