  • Hitler wasn't allowed to have troops on the German Rhineland because of the Treaty of Versaille but when he occupied it in March 1936, Britain and France did nothing.

  • Hitler thought that all German speakers should be united and because the Austrians spoke German and some of the supported him, he invaded Austria and created Anschluss
  • The leader of czechoslovakia asked Britain and France for help when Hitler demanded control over Sudetenland. Britain and France gave it to him and in return he promised not to invade any other territories.
  • When Hitler invaded the rest of czechoslovakia to make living space for his master race, Britain and France promised that if he invaded Poland they would declare war.

  • Russia was not yet strong enough to fight Germany so they made a deal not to attack each other for 10 years and to split Poland between them. Hitler was now free to invade Poland which he did on 1 September 1939.
