  • Mom, am hungry.
  • You will have to wait.
  • You have to do the shopping for food.
  • The store is right there.
  • Am proud,I feel like a grownup
  • "Mama, I'm hungry," I complained one afternoon.  But mom tried to forget what I said with other things.
  • Yes, am going to eat today.
  • One evening my mother told me that thereafter I would have to do the shopping for food.
  • The money!
  • Ja, ja!
  • She took me to the corner store to show me the way.
  • Here is more money, go back to the store and bring those groceries.
  • Mom some gang boys grabbed me, knock me down, snatched the basket, took the money and sent me home.
  • The next afternoon I looped the basket over my arm and went down the pavement toward the store.
  • When I reached the corner, a gang boys grabbed me, knock me down, snatched the basket, took the money and sent me running home in panic. 
  • That  evening I told my mother what had happened, but she didn't made a comment; she sat down at once, wrote another note, gave me more money, and sent me out to the grocery again.
