  • The Cubans revolted the first time in 1868 and this was failed. Then in 1896 they revolted again. They begged the US to help them.

  • The Maine was sunk while patrolling near Cuba. The US sent the Maine to protect its people and belongings. The US public jumped to the conclustion that it was the Spanish
  • The US began to get involved by sending ships to The Philppeens and Cuba. The Philpeens were revolting against the Spanish. The US sunk the whole Spanish Pacific fleet in one battle.

  • The treaty of Paris was signed by both the President of Spain and The US. It said that Spain had to accept Cuba's independence. The US got several territories in exchange for twenty million dollars.

  • He did not want to go to war with Spain even if the people did. He tried three times to capture peace. All of these attempts failed and eventually did have to go to war with Spain.
