Night found him leg -weary, with hands and feet lashed by the branches, on a thickly wooded ridge.
VIctorious and Safe
But, he was not quick enough the dead tree delicately adjusted to rest on the cut living one, crashed down and struck the general a glancing blow on his shoulder as it fell.
Thinking and Buliding
The pit grew deeper when it was above his shoulders, he climbed out and from some hard saplings cut stakes and sharpened them to a fine point. These stakes he planted at the bottom of the pit with the points sticking up. With flying fingers he wove a rough carpet of weeds and branches and with it he covered the mouth of the pit.
This moment in our story Rainsford is feeling tired and beaten down one because he does not want to get killed by Zaroff, but he also was lashed and beaten by nature itself while trying to escape. He also is full of fear since Zaroff could kill him at any time while he trecked through the woods.
Panicking and Hurrying
In this scene Rainford feels victorious and safe since he got Zaroff to the ground with his trap. This also means he can run away and get away faster than him since Zaroff is hurt fro now.
Relaxed and Relived
This scene of the story shows Rainsford really using his head to save himself. The reason was because if he didn't Zaroff would find him and kill him. So the text and my picture above shows the his thinking and processing mind to help him survive and not get killed.
This part of our story shows Rainsford panicking and hurrying because they were so close he could feel it. However him panicking in this scene didn't make it better it made it worse than it already was. However he couldn't panick as Rainford said in a earlier page he told himself to not lose his cool.
He caught hold of a springy young sapling and to it he fastened his hunting knife with the blade pointing down the trail with a bit of grape vine he tied back the sapling.
This final scene in our little story shows Rainsford happy at last not being hunted down by Zaroff. In this final scene Rainsford feels at peace and relived it was over at last.
He had never slept in a better bed., Rainford decinded.
