Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Jordan Grant
Characters in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Dr. Jekyll- Doctor who is known as a kind, altruistic person in his society. He is good friends with Dr.Lanyon and Gabriel John Utterson. His counterpart would be Macbeth Mr. Hyde- Dark side of Dr.Jekyll due to a potion he created. He is violent and seems to have a lack of knowledge. Mr. Utterson- He is friends with Dr.Jekyll and is also a lawyer, which could of triggered his suspicions about Mr. Hyde having something to do with Dr.Jekyll. his counterpart in Macbeth would be Macduff or Banquo because of their suspicions of Macbeth.
My favorite incident in the book was the finale when Utterson finds out that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the same person. This was dramatic irony because the audience had clues to this but Utterson a lawyer couldn't figure it out. Utterson had found Hyde dead wearing the same clothes as Dr.jekyll. This was when he was finally able to read the letter given to him by Dr. Lanyon. It revealed the truth about Dr. Jekyll
Macbeth and Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde don't share many similarities but they are there. One similarity is that the to main characters, Macbeth and Dr. Jekyll undergo changes that bring out the dark sides of them. Both of them were seen as good samaritans in their society as Macbeth was loyal brave hero and Dr.Jekyll was seen as a charitable person. The things that caused a change to dr. jekyll's nature was a potion he had created. The version of the potion for Macbeth would be lady Macbeth since her words had led to his first actions of evil. Differences that they have is their will is different. Macbeth was consumed by his greed and ambition at first but then he is caught up in fears of his prophecy. Dr. Jekyll just got carried away with experiments and brought out a monster.
Questions i would ask the author would be what was his time period like and what inspired you to create this book. This book was published in 1886, so i wonder what his inspiration could be. Also one character i would ask a question would be Mr. Hyde. He is a dangerous criminal who seems to seek blood lust and lack of awarness. Also meeting a deformed unevolved human would be interesting.
In my opinion, i didnt really like this book. When i chose this book i was looking foward to something more similar to Macbeth but got something that was different. Though it had a lot of references to blood and darkness and death, the similarities end there. This book was somewhat interesting but besides that it couldnt seem to pull me in.
