  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau saw society as the corrupting influence on people. Felt the role of government to protect the "General Will" of people.
  • Baron de Montesquieu Complete separation of powers to Maintain Balance within government. (Legislative, Executive, Judicial) Promoting the ideas of separation of power and checks and balances. He made the Limited Government popular even though he was not in it
  • Voltaire Championed the Freedom of Speech. Believed that God created the world and set it in motion. Allowed it to run itself by natural law.
