the symbol that im using is the black box because it shows what they used to put the papers for the townspeople to pick. Also because it has been passed down from generation to generation, and a piece of town history and tradition
Tone and theme
the sign the of imagery i chose was the one of the clear and sunny day in june, because it is something which is meant contrast the violent and deadly end to the story. Where mrs. Hutchinson is stoned to death by the other villagers and also where mrs. Delacroix uses both hands to throw the biggest stone.
The figure of speech the i am using is simile (" Mrs. Hutchinson tapping Mrs. Delacroix on the arm as a farewell" ) because it compares tapping her arm to farewell. Also at the end of the story after the tapping of the arm Mrs. Huthinson gets hit by the biggest stone thrown by Mrs. Delacroix. The fact that it happen as if Mrs. Hutchinson knew that she was gonna "win" the lottery or vice versa for Mrs. Delacroix.
I chose tone, because of how the author showed the brutality and violence of the stoning after the "winner" of the lottery was chosen. Also how Mrs. Delacroix chose the biggest stone to throw, and the school kids made a pile stacked up. And how even her own family were stoning her,"The children had stones already, and someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles."
