  • Jay Treaty
  • Washington's Farewell Speech
  • ...Americans should avoid political factions...
  • Development of Political Parties
  • Jefferson is completely incorrect!
  • Hamilton is a fool!
  • The Jay Treaty was made in order to end the conflict between America and Britain. However, it angered the French because it they thought it meant that the Americans were siding with Britain.
  • XYZ Affair
  • Give us a $250,000 bribe and a $2 million loan, then you can see him.
  • It included that a president should only serve two terms, that America should stay out of European problems, and to avoid political factions.
  • Alien And Sedition Acts
  • Political parties developed because of disagreements between Alexander Hamilton (a Federalist) and Thomas Jefferson (a Democratic-Republican), and people began to take sides.
  • Midnight Appointments
  • Any ideas?
  • To resolve issues with France, John Adams sent three representatives to France to meet with the minister. When they arrived, they were met by three agents (dubbed X, Y, and Z) who demanded a $250,000 bribe and a $2 million loan to see the minister. This angered many Americans.
  • That's ridiculous! We won't do it.
  • These acts were passed due to the disagreements between France and America. The Alien Acts authorized the president to deport foreign residents, and the Sedition Act made it illegal to publish any false/malicious writing against the government.
  • In the election of 1800, the Federalists lost all their power. In passing the Judiciary Act of 1801, John Adams and Congress attempted to fill the federal court system with Federalist judges.
