Storyboard Text

  • When in the court room Thomas Putnam is accused of conjuring problems by having his daughter accuse their neighbor or performing witchcraft. Giles Corey says this and also says he put his daughter up to this so that he could buy land in auction to make his property.
  • Now coming in, John Proctor and Mary Warren are at the court to give Mary's testimony. Mary wants to accuse the girls of faking the rumors of witch craft because she knows they are lying. John also knows the girls are lying because when he tries to say he knows, his anger got the best of him and he goes off on Abigail saying very inappropriate things about her to the court.
  • After Proctor confesses his effrontery, actions they bring in Elizabeth Proctor from the jail. She is said to never lie, according to John, she also did not hear Proctor make his confession. When she was called into court, John is forced to be turned away from her, so he could not influence her decisions. When asked if John had committed adultery she nervously says no, defending her husband. At that moment John turned around to tell her that he had already confessed but it had already been too late.
  • After saying her confession hat she knows the girls are lying, they ask her to prove it. The girls are shocked she would do this to them and feel that trouble is coming their way. The court asks her to faint falsely just like they do. When asked to perform the task, she is unable to faint.
  • At this point in the scene, the girls start to act like Mary is controlling them. They start to repeat everything that Mary says and they claim that they see a yellow bird in the church. No one else sees it besides the girls but for some reason they believe them. Mary randomly turns on Proctor and starts to go along with the girls and follow their non sense.
  • As the girls continue screaming they say the bird is going outside. They all run outside erratically and all the townspeople are highly confused about what was going on. The girls ran all the way into a pond until they stopped. At this point, Mary was accusing Proctor of being the devils man. Reverend Hale quit this case because he knew this was all nonsense and that he was being accused of something totally unreasonable.
