After Nick and Tom arrives at Tom's house, Tom calls a taxi for Nick and goes into the house. Gatsby, who was hiding in the bushes the whole time, steps out and talks to Nick. Nick reveals to Gatsby the grisly details of the accident and Gatsby reveals to Nick that it was actually Daisy that had been driving.

Nick leaves to see if there is any trouble. He comes upon a restaurant and sees Daisy and Gatsby sitting unhappily with each other. Nick proceeds back to where he started as the Taxi is arriving. Gatsby was there and refuses to sleep until Daisy goes to bed. Nick walks away to catch his taxi.
