  •  Warm up      14 (21x+ 150 + 18x − 21) = 18 (11x − 16 + 7x + 14)                    7                                      3
  • Me!
  • Would anyone like to try this?
  • Hi Class, today we are going to do some algebra practice to prepare for tomorrow's test.
  •  Warm up                           Kingston's Method 1. Get rid of the  denominator  14 (21x+ 150 + 18x − 21) = 18 (11x − 16 + 7x + 14)                                                                       7                                           3 2. Distributive Law 3[14(21x+150+18x−21)] = 7[18(11x−16+7x +14)]                                  3 (294x+2100+252x−294) = 7 (198x−288+126x+252)              *Mistake #1*    882x+630+756x−882 =   1386x−2016+882x+1764 3. Collect Like terms *Mistake #2*   1638x+252 -  =  2268x−252                                                       4. Isolate for  x  *Mistake #3* -630x + 630 = -504 -630 5.  X    x =  -1134
  • Yes you may Joanne.
  • Miss, I see a few mistakes that Kingston might have left, can I go fix it?
  • I'm Done!
  • I don't think I did it right.......
  • A few minutes later........
  •           Warm up                          Joanne's Method  1. Get rid of the denominator  14 (21x+ 150 + 18x − 21) = 18 (11x − 16 + 7x + 14)                                                                       7                                           3 2. Distributive Law 3[14(21x+150+18x−21)] = 7[18(11x−16+7x +14)] 3. Collect Like terms  3 (294x+2100+252x−294) = 7 (198x−288+126x+252)                                              3 (546x + 1806) = 7 (324x − 36)                                             1638x + 5418 = 2268x - 252  4. Isolate for  x  1638x + 5418 - 2268x = 2268x - 252 -5418  5.  X  -630x = -5670                                       x =  9             -630      -630
  • Ta da!! I'm done!
  • Well Done Joanne!
  • Can you explain to the class why Kingston's answer was wrong?
  • Sure!
  •      Warm up      14 (21x+ 150 + 18x − 21) = 18 (11x − 16 + 7x + 14)                    7                                      3
  • Mistakes Kingston made 1. 3(2100) = 6300 NOT 3(2100) = 630, kingston have forgotten to add a zero and that affected the result  2. 630+(-882)= -252 NOT 630- (-882) 3. Kingston was supposed to divide -630 on each side and NOT subtract -630
  • Thank you Joanne, have a sit.
