About 2,500 years ago in India Buddhism was created by a Hindu prince named Siddhartha Gautama. When He was born a Hindu priest said that if he saw suffering he would become a great teacher and if he did not he would become a great king. So his father kept him isolated from the outside world to become a king. But one day he saw suffering. He began to think of a way to stop suffering. He left his family and began to do the extreme. After 6 years he was saving and left himself close to death. From all of the past years, he finally realized that extremes was not the way and he found the middle way and became enlightened. He had stopped suffering and became known as the Buddha. He taught others the path to enlightenment.
Buddhism in India
Beliefs and practices Buddhism has 3 beliefs. Karma is one of them. Karma is what comes around goes around. For example, if you do something good you will have a good consequence. They also believed in reincarnation. This is the cycle of birth, death, and then rebirth. If you believed in Buddhism reincarnation was suffering and your goal was to reach Nirvana. Nirvana was another belief. Nirvana was the end of reincarnation and the end of suffering. It is reaching enlightenment. Some of their practices that help them reach nirvana. One of them is yoga and meditation. It helps them search for the middle way and helps them gain control of their mind and body. They also worshiped the Buddha. They would go to a shrine or temple and pay respects to the Buddha. They would meet with other Buddhist to meditate. Part of worship is rituals. This is where you bring offerings to a shrine or temple and are usually placed in front of a buddha statue.
Holidays The Buddhism religion has lots of festivals and holidays. One of the them is the festival of floating bowls. This takes place at the end of the Kathin festival season and on the full moon on the twelfth lunar month. Once all the rivers are full of water loy krathang begins. This where you take a bowl made out of leaves and put candles and flowers in them. They set the bowls on the water and watch them away. They were supposed to carry away all bad luck that you had.
How does religion make life better for people? There are probably many answers to this question. But my answer is it gives them freedom. They get to chose what they believe in and they get to know about that religion. And some of the holidays can bring people and family's closer . And if you go to a church or you have special offerings that you do it can bring you meet new people that you never thought you would ever talk to.
Buddhism Holy text Buddhism has lots of holy text. One of them is the universal truths. It tells Buddhist how you, mentally and physically, are changing and so is everything around you. Another is the four noble truths. It tells you that all life involves suffering and the way to over come it is to follow the Eightfold path. The Eightfold path is another holy text. It tells the Buddhist how to reach nirvana and find the middle way
