  • This scene is when Walter gives Travis the 50 cents that he needs as well as an extra 50 cents. This scene is important because this shows that Walter is careless with money when they need it the most. (Act 1, scene 1)
  • “In fact, buy yourself some fruit today— or take a taxicab to school or something” (Hansberry 31).
  • ”You pregnant” (Hansberry 57).
  • This scene shows Ruth coming back from the doctor finding out that she is pregnant. This is important because the family is low on money and now they have to take care of one more person. (Act 1, scene 2)
  • ” Well, I guess from all the happy faces— everybody knows” (Hansberry 57).
  • " Yeah --- I always wanted to live in a house" (Hansberry 91).
  • This scene is important because this shows when Mama tells Travis that she bought a house with the money. This is important because this shows a turning a point for the family and their lifestyle. (Act 2, scene 1)
  • "She went out and she bought you a house! You glad about the house? It's going to be your when you get to be a man"
  • " I paid the man thirty-five hundred dollars down on the house. That laves $6,500" (Hansberry 106).
  • This scene shows the moment when Mama tells Walter she's giving him $6,500. This is important because now Walter can buy the liquor store with his friends. (Act 2, scene 2)
  • " You trust me like that, Mama?" (Hansberry 107).
  • "You just can't force people to change their hearts, son" (Hansberry 119).
  • This scene shows Lindner telling Walter that the people in their neighborhood wants to buy their house. This is important because it shows the racism in neighborhoods back then.

  • "Gone, What you mean Willy is gone?" (Hansberry 128).
  • This scene shows Bobo telling Walter that Willy died. This is important because this the moment Walter realizes all the money he gave to Willy is now all gone.
