PLANET'S PLASTIC PROBLEM
But only 270 bottles are recycled! 44% are sent to landfill.
So where does the rest go?
Did you know that the average household in the uk uses 480 plastic bottles a year?
Food wrappers, fishing nets, plastic bottles, straws and carrier bags are the most common plastic items found on UK beaches.
Why not do your own research and visit a local beach? Record the litter you find there and the different types.
At least 100 million marine mammals are killed each year from plastic pollution.
More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year.
Our actions are destroying the habitat of marine life creatures on and off land. But we're the only ones who can stop this, whether it be by joining beach clean ups or simply by reducing the amount of plastic we throw away every day.
This is not one person's responsibility. We all share the planet as our home, therefore all of us should make an effort to keep it clean and safe for both humans and animals in the future!
What can we do? We don't purposely try to harm the wildlife with our rubbish.
If we want to help save the planet from toxic, plastic litter, we all must come together and make a change. This can start within the home.
THINK before you throw your plastic away. Can it be recycled? Can I reuse it?
