Waves: Energy is carried in waves. Waves consists of crest/compressions and trough/rarefactions. They are measured in frequencies, wavelength, and amplitude.
Light waves: Do not require a medium. That is why we get sunlight from the sun, even with the vacuum of space between us.
Sound waves: Do require a medium. That is why sound does not exist in space. Sound waves need particles to bounce off to transmit energy.
Medium: A state of matter that makes it possible to transfer energy.
Sound and Light waves can do all of 4 things: -Reflect: Bounce back -Refract: Change direction -Diffract: Spread out -Absorb: Take in
Sound and light also travel at different speeds. That is why you see lightening before you hear thunder, because light is faster than sound. However, those speeds can change as it goes through different mediums. Sound goes fastest through solids and light goes fastest through gases (or a vacuum).
