  • Spanish ambassador described McKinley as "weak bidder for the admiration of the crowd."
  • The USS Maine, which guarded the island of Cuba, sank from an explosion in the ammunition of the ship which killed 250 American soldiers. Cubans blamed.
  • McKinley refuses to fight no matter how the people of America urge to fight.
  • McKinley asked for constipation for the USS Maine, Cuban independence, Church of Cuba, an end to re-concentration camps, and for Cuban independence. The Spanish did not agree to the last demand. This sparked war.
  • The Treaty Of Paris was signed by the US in Cuba.
  • The U.S gained Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico in an exchange of $20 million.
