  • Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in the year 1225 A.D. in Naples, +Italy A friar preacher told his mother, Theodora, a countess, and his father, Landulph, a count, before Thomas Aquinas was born that he would become a preacher, learn, and achieve unequaled sanctity. he was the youngest of 8.

  • At the age of 5, Thomas Aquinas was sent to a Benedictine monastery to study, but left at age of 13 because of the political climate. He always asked, what is God and was described as a "child with a good soul" he continued his studies with the Benedictines in Naples. He secretly joined the Dominicans. When his family found out, they felt betrayed, kidnapped him, locket his in a tower in an attempt to change him. However, he held fast , so his family released him after one year.
  • After being released, Thomas Aquinas taught at the University of Paris, and mentored under St. Albert the Great. He traveled around giving speeches about the issue of philosophy vs theology because it was extremely controversial at the time He taught that Philosophy and Theology both come from God.

  • Thomas Aquinas wrote many written works that survive today about Philosophy, law, theology, and the existence of God. His most famous work was Summa Theologia.

  • One day while saying mass, Thomas Aquinas heard the cross speak to him, saying,"Thou hast written well of me, Thomas; what reward wilt thou have?" He replied," None other than myself Lord."

  • In January of 1274, Thomas Aquinas was on the way to Lyon, France to attend the Second Council when he fell ill. He knew he was going to die, so he rested in a nearby monastery. The monks wanted him to go to the castle, but he said," i would rather die in a religious house than the one of a layperson. " His last words were," Here I will rest for ever and ever. Here I will dwell, for I have chosen it." He died on March 7th, 1274. his feast day is January 28th and is the patron saint of Catholic Universities.
