Storyboard Text

  • Day 1: teacher welcomes students with an informal and friendly but authoritative posture and demeanor, treating them with a genuine kindness and respect, and expressing excitement for the journey they are about to share.
  • The teacher then shifts the classroom, keeping the students moving and engaged in the flexilble learning environment. They form agreements about how they can best support each other to create a true community of learners.
  • LearnerAgreements * Be Kind * Be Curious * Be Courageous
  • Live the learner agreements and share them with families. Have a contract that students, parents and teachers sign. Send an email or give a quick call to the parents of students who model them to an exceptional degree.
  • The teacher gives the class a tour of their learning space, making sure everyone is aware where to go and when, what to find where and how to do things in the class, establishing very clear expectations and routines.
  • Surprise and inspire them everyday. Lift up courage and let it shine!
  • When student behavior becomes an issue in spite of amazing effort, seek causes for the new behaviors; treat the student with calm and compassion and give choices for correcting behavior to help bolster confidence and dignity.
