One day, Susannah and her mom heard that Dr.Siegel, one of Susannah’s doctors, decided to give up Susannah’s case. After the news, Susannah and her mom fell into despair. But then, they heard that Dr. Najjar, whom Dr. Siegel recommended, will join her case.
After several experiments and discussion between Dr. Najjar and Dr.Russo, they found out that Susannah’s disease is anti- NMDA autoimmune encephalitis. It is a disease in which one’s antibodies attack one’s own NMDA receptors in the brain.
After realizing her disease, Susannah became to leave the hospital and start living with her mom again. Then, as her 2nd social experiment after leaving the hospital, she went to her stepbrother David’s wedding. In the wedding, Susannah had a lot of fun and she even drank some alcohol.
From her 2nd IVIG treatment with Dr. Najjar, she found out that her frontal lobe still needs repairment even though she improved a lot.
When she stayed at the hospital for the 3rd time, she decided to write a diary about how earlier Susannah was. Also, Susannah felt really thankful to her parents for taking care of her and the relationship between Susannah and her parents became closer.
As Susannah got better, she returned to her NY post office. At first, she was awkward to be there with her old colleagues, but she was really happy to be there again. She also wrote the article “Month of Madness” which influenced many people later on.
