Storyboard Text

  •
  • Wow that Pita Bread you made was very delicious!
  •
  • Thank you!
  •
  • How did you make the Pita Bread?
  •
  •
  •
  •
  • I just combined flour, bread flour, salt, water, yeast, oil, onion, cheese and sugar in a special way.
  •
  • How did you make it all airy and soft?
  •
  • When I combined the yeast, sugar and water I made sure the water was warm, kept stirring till all the yeast had dissolved, let the yeast sit before adding to the dough and once the yeast had been added to the dough I allowed it to sit in a warm place to rise.
  •
  • Why did you use warm water why not hot or cold?
  •
  • When I made it I had to use warm water or otherwise it would kill the yeast and wouldn’t go fluffy if I had used cold or hot water.
  •
  • How does the airiness/fluffiness work or happened?
  •
  • What the yeast does is that it takes the sugar and turns it into carbon dioxide, alcohol, flavour molecules and energy. The carbon dioxide then expands when it goes into the oven as the dough. The carbon dioxide expands causing the Pita Bread to puff up.
  •
  • Why does this happen?
  •
  • This happens because if the yeast has a foodsource (the sugar) warm water, oxygen and a warm place to raise then it will rise in the oven when cooked. It puffs up because the carbon dioxide expands when it gets warm and causing a pocket of air to grow inside the dough while it is cooking or baking.
