Storyboard Text

  • Arithmetic & Geometric Sequences
  • Arithmetic sequences are sets of numbers that have a common difference(Subtraction).
  • Geometric sequences are sets of numbers that have a common ratio(Division).
  • Examples: Arithmetic 3, 6,9, 12 CD=3 Geometric 1, 4, 16, 64 CR=4
  • The rule for an arithmetic sequence is an = a1 + (n - 1)d The rule for an geometric sequence is an = a1(r)n-1
  • Using the rules Arithmetic rule- a9 = 3 + (9-1)(2) a9 = 3 + 18 - 2 a9 = 19 Geometric Rule- a6 = 5(2)6 - 1 a6 = 5(32) a6 = 160
  • Some sequences have many numbers in it, so we must find a rule in order to find the rest of the numbers in the sequence that are not given to us.
