  • As long as you live here for 5 years you can keep this land
  • Louisiana purchase
  • Can we buy some land?
  • Yeah we got some land we can give you
  • Mexican cession
  • This act gave a hand-full of Americans 160 acre pots of land for free. But they had to do something with it while they were there, an example would be build a house or start a farm.
  • Oregon Territory
  • This purchase was big enough to double the size of America at this time. This is where America bought this land from France in 1803.
  • Texas annexation
  • The Mexican cession means ceded or surrendered. After the war started in 1846 it ended in 1848 with the treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo gaining this land.
  • Creation of the Transcontinental railroad/Gadsden Purchase
  • The Oregon territory was wanted by both the British and the United states. They told British that it would not be shared and led to the pig war. After the war they signed treaty leading to the US having this land
  • Texas was originally part of Mexico. Then a group of settlers wanted independence from Mexico and its government, this started the Mexican-American war. This war ended with the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
  • The railroad was a railroad that went all across the US. In order to finish Manifest Destiny and the railroad they needed the Gadsden purchase. They bought this land for 10 million dollars.
