Storyboard Text

  • James Madison was elected in 1808 as the fourth president. He convinced Congress to declare war on Britain
  • British Navy Men would forcibly place American sailors into the Royal Navy. This angered Madison. Another case of the war were the natives threatening to take back their land in the Northwest Territory.
  • The first part, and the majority of the war was fought near the Great Lakes in Michigan and Canada.
  • When Britain defeated the French, they went straight for the American headquarters. They burned down the White House.
  • Andrew Jackson was seen as a war hero after he led the US to victory in the Battle of New Orleans. His success helped him win the presidential election later on.
  • The War of 1812 led to the Industrial Revolution because the Americans were forced to make their own products and had they own trade economy.
