Who Enforces the CWA?
The 2015 Decision?
Explain the history of the Clean Water Act of 1972. Why was it enacted? What events led to it passing? Who was involved?
How has this ruling affected private landowners? i.e. Farmers and ranchers
No, law enforcement officers do not enforce the CWA. In fact, the people that enforce the CWA work for the Army Corps of Engineers, the Fish and Wildlife Departement, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Explain the Obama Administration's 2015 ruling on Waters of the United States. Why does it matter? What does it mean? Who was involved? Is it final?
Permitting- Permitting to build infrastructure in lieu of wetlands. Red Tape- Who's water? Is it protected? Can I use it? Citations and fees- If rules are broken, lawsuits ensue Bankrupt businesses- Litigation fees and mitigation credits can lead to bankruptcy.
Connect the enforcement of the 2015 ruling to global food production. Has the Federal Govt. overstepped its authority? Why does it matter? Should we care? Is it causing farmers and ranchers to struggle financially?
Finish the video with a brief description of my job (wildlife biologist), and provide examples of firsthand experiences with Army Corps of Engineers, the Clean Water Act, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.
