Monarchs are insects (six-legged animals with exoskeletons) and they live all around the world but cannot live in cold areas so when it does become to cold for them they migrate to warmer places.
There are many different kinds of monarchs but its closest relative is the moth. The difference between the two id that moths fly at night in the dark while the monarch flies during the day in light.
Some types of monarchs are in danger because of habitat loss. There are over 40 species of monarchs which are also known as butterflies, skippers, and moths.
