  • Do you know how many offspring alligators have?
  • Yes, alligators have 35-50 offspring, normally. Some female alligators can have up to 90 offspring, too!
  • That's correct, do you know what we do to compete for resources?
  • We are predators, so we can sneak up on prey such as birds.  We also need the best adaptions.
  • Another genetic variation is scissor claw, that is where they have a stubbed claw 
  • Correct again! Had you learned two genetic variations between alligators?
  • One genetic variations is scissor jaw, that is where there jaw is off and slanted. 
  • Wow, you really know your stuff!
  • Now I'm going to ask you a question!
  • Yes, I know this one.  We adapt to the surroundings using our skin and plate color. We can use this to our advantage by blending in with the swamp and sneaking up on prey.
  • Do you know what character trait we have to help us adapt to our surroundings?
  • Hmm, traits that we have inherited? I once saw an alligator snapping turtle, if that counts? 
  • That's right, how about traits that we inherated
