The Introduction Of Montag: Montag is a dedicated fireman that was thought to burn books. He took so much pride into his job, he loved the smell of kerosene as the book that were so much hated were burned. On his way home Montag met this 17-year old girl named Clarisse she asked him questions and one question was "Do you ever read any of the books you burn", he replied "That's against the law"(Bradbury 8).
Montag Influenced By Clarisse: Montag took so much pride into his job but that all changed when Clarisse asked him "Are you happy" (Bradbury 10). He replied with " of course" but then later that really made him questioned if he really was, he began to question everything. On day at his job, they told him to burn a house that was found to be full of books including a lady. The conversation he had with Clarisse made him think a lot so that made him steal a book.
Montag Grows Sick: All the guilt that Montag has is because he stole that book and all the things he has done. All that guilt stresses him out and then he becomes "sick". He had work the next day and so he tell his wife Mildred that he can't go. Beatty, his boss comes in and checks on him. He knows hes not actually sick and says that every firemen has this feeling that Montag has. His wife comes in and looks around his room while Batty talks to Montag. On page 55, "Mildred smoothed the bedclothes. Montag felt his heart jump and jump as she patted his pillow"...."Mildred's hand had frozen behind the pillow. Her fingers were tracing the books' outline" ( pg. 56). She was surprised and she dint say anything about the book but she did change the subject.
Montag becomes a student: Montag looks for guildence and he goes to a man he once met named Faber. He seeks for Faber's help because on page 82 it says, " Nobody listens any more. I can't talk to the walls because they're yelling at me. I can't talk to mu wife; she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to say. And maybe if I talk long enough, it'll make sense. And I want you to teach me to understand what I read".
Montag Rebels: Montag burns many things in the house (pg. 116). Montag has the flamethrower towards Beatty and Beatty says, " well that's one way to get an audience. Hold a gun on a man and force him to listen to your speech". Then Montag shot one continuous pulse of liquid fire on Beatty. (119).
Montag Finds Fullfilament: MOntag had police chasing him/ finding him so Faber got him a change of clothes and Montag discovers a group of scholars with a lot of knowledge and they welcome him.
