Storyboard Text

  • Hi guys! Its Jodel again & today we are going to talk about social determinants in public health
  • Social determinates of health are conditions an environment people are born into. These conditions are where people live, learn, work, play, and age. These all play a part in public health.
  • Socioeconomic status such as income and education affects health in all forms of ways!
  • Income: Americans who report being in poor health increases as levels of income decreases. Education: Education plays a key role in the determining factor whether a person has good health coverage.
  • How do these socioeconomic statuses effect health?
  • Something that surprised me during my readings was the connection between parent's education and the child's education and health. It said children whose parent's have not completed high school are 6x more likely to be in poor health.
  • Another shocking fact learned is: lower socioeconomic status is associated with lower life expectancy and is associated with 14 major cause of death categories, health outcomes, and major mental diseases!
