  • June 27th, the day of the lottery. A group of boys from the village erect a pile of rocks to use to "award" the winner of the yearly tradition.
  • Mr. Summers awaits for the villagers to settle down. The villagers are unable to settle as the yearly ritual of the lottery is upon them.
  • The inhabitants of the settlement wait nervously to pick a slip of paper from the box, this slip indicating whether or not they are the winner.
  • The unfortunate winner is declared. Their fate is set.
  • Mrs. Hutchinson
  • Death is the reward! The villagers proceed to hurl rocks and pebbles of all shaoes and sizes at the winner of the lottery, dispatching her instantly.

  • Every year, on June 27th, a tombtone appears in the graveyard.
