Popular sovereignty allows me to vote for my representatives.
The Constitution limits government power to what the people give it.
Separate but Equal
The power of the government is split between three branches: the Executive branch, the Legislative branch, and the Judicial branch.
Thanks to Judicial Review, the other Supreme Court members and I determine if the actions of the Legislative and Executive branches are constitutional.
In the Constitution, a system of checks and balances is established so that no one branch overrules the other two.
The government system of the U.S. is called federalism. In this system, power is distributed between the individual states and the federal government.
