Militarism was a huge factor in World War 1 because everyone wanted to be the strongest and if you want to be the strongest you need to have the strongest army.
Alliances made everyone feel powerful because if they had trouble with one country, all its allies would jump in to fight their petty battles
Imperialism showed every country how powerful they could get just by invading other countries for resources and land. (Race to Africa)

Nationalism made every country feel superior to every country and unequal
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand was what started WW1
