How to graph an inequality
This storyboard does not have a description.
Ok class, how do we graph y<1/2x+2
Well you first start at the origin then move up two on the y-axis because the y-intercept is the number 2 in the inequality.
Yes, that's correct. Then, what do we do?
After that you find the slope which in this equation is 1/2 because its the coefficient of X. Meaning that, from where you plotted the number 2 on the y-axis you move up 1 and move 2 steps to the right.
Great! Then what's next?
Once that's done you draw a dotted line using those two points. The inequality has no line under it meaning that the line has to be dotted.
In order to shade it in you have to substitute coordinates, into the equation, that are not on the line you drew. For example (2,3), you substitute 2 in the x and 3 in the y, then solve. If the equation is true you shade that side that the coordinate is located in and if it's false then you shade the other side.
That is correct, thank you. Class dismissed.
