Perseus grew up fishing on a small island. The ruler of the island fell in love with his mom. He tried to force her to marry him. Perseus fought him off and Polydectes decided he had to make him leave. The ruler pretended he was going to marry someone else and everyone had to bring a gift.
Meeting with a mentor
Perseus was too poor to get a present for them. Instead of giving him a present Polydectes told him to slay Medusa. Then he had to bring back her head.
Crossing the Threshold
Perseus was very brave but he was skeptical about the task. He knew he could not do it alone. He knew he could not back down now.
Test, Allies, and Enemies
Here is what you need.
As Polydetes and Perseus was talking a god and a goddess were listening. They wanted to help him. The goddess gave him a shield of brass which would act as a mirror so he would not turn to stone. The messenger god gave him a unbreakable sword and would guide him to Medusa.
Before Perseus could go kill Medusa he had to get things from the northern nymphs. The messenger god helped him get there, once he got there the nymphs gave him winged sandals, a magic wallet, and a cap that makes you invisible.
The nymphs and the gods gave him stuff to help him kill Medusa. Perseus did not think he could do it before they gave him help. The nymphs were very nice to Perseus.
