Sammy is the main charecter of the story. He is 17 years old and works at a supermarekt called A&P. The conflict is the girls walking in to the store.
"That was messed up and you know it"
The girls enter the the store with nothing but bakinis. Mr.Lengel (his manager) walks up to my register. He then sees the girls in bakinis and confronts the girls about their attire
Sammy is offended by what Mr. Lengel says and utters the words "I QUIT" to his store manager. Sammy explains why he feels this way. The reader never knows if he will ever go back
The falling action occurs after Sammy stands up for the girls who enter the grocery store where he works and are chastised by the manager for their attire (bathing suits).
A the end the problem is not solved, but it is not in a good way.Sammy abandoned his job. He also think the girls would be nice to him but it turns out they just left
Well that was horrible
Sammy has learned to tell people's social and economic class in part from what they buy at the store. The herring snacks are a fancy, expensive item. He contrasts that with his own family, where fancy means beer glasses.
