The grandma's powwow spirit is famous. She's important because from the reservation and she helps Arnold by making him smile. The reason why is because maybe Arnold regrets punching the kid. It says "Yeah, but you punched the alpha dog in the face." she said."They're going to respect you now." "I love you,Grandma, I said. "But you're crazy ." (70)
In the novel Arnold faces between himself as Junior from the Reservation and his Reardan as Arnold. In the novel it explain that he does not know who he is. It says "My name is Junior. " I said. " And my name is Arnold. It's Junior and Arnold. I'm both." (60) "I felt like two different people inside of one body." (61) Arnold is important because the way he see's himself and to know who he really is.
In the novel Penelope is described as a beautiful white girl, a big dreamer, and artistic. In the novel it says "I want to go to Stanford ad study architecture." (112) Penelope is an important character because she is the popular white girl who goes to Reardan and she meets Arnold. "I walked down the aisle and sat in the back row and tried to ignore all the stares and whispers, until a blond girl leaned over me." (59)
Ever since Rowdy was born he was an aggressive kid. In the novel it says "He bit his mother's breast when she tried to nurse him."(17) However Rowdy is an important character because he is Arnold's best friend. Ever since Rowdy and Arnold were born, Rowdy stood beside him to protect him. It says "Rowdy has protected me since we were born." (17)
In the novel Oscar is described as a stray mutt. It says "And sure, Oscar was only an adopted stray mutt, but he was the only living thing that I could depend on." (9) Oscar is important in ways that Arnold relies on. In the novel Arnold says that he is more sensible than his family. It says "He was more dependable than my parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and big sister." (9)
Mr. P is lazy and a weird teacher as the novel describes. He is an important character from the novel in a way it's kinda of bad, but at the same time he's not. In the novel it says "Mostly, I just think Mr. P is a lonely old man who used to be a lonely young man." (30)
