Isabel and Ruth are slaves and their mother had recently passed. She died to due smallpox which they also got and survived but left both of them with many scars.
I miss my sister and I want to leave Charleston
Isabel and Ruth later get sold from Rhode Island all the way to New York. They get sold to a family of loyalists, the Locktons. They are both sad because they move away from their mom's spirit because spirits can't move across water
Isabel and Ruth are not impressed with New York and they do not like the Locktons they are as mean as a hungry lion. They are not looking forward to sleeping in the cold, wet, basement with all the other critters and rodents.
Ruth gets shipped away to Charleston and her sister doesn't know where she went so now she is on her own now. Isabel weeps like a baby when she finds out the sad news.
After Ruth gets sent away Mr. Locktons aunt Lady Seymour requests to have Isabel in her house hold. Isabel likes her more then the Locktons so shes not that sad to go there
Isabel went to sleep that night in Lady Seymour's house peacefully hoping to get well rested in the morning.
