Social Economic and political Josiah Wiechman Period 3
Slaves are working even in the rain to help the economy prosper.
In this picture Gentlemen and ladies are going home from church after hearing a very amazing Social sermon and are ready to convert some native americans in this Jamestown colony.
John Smith set up a representative government called the house of burgesses had to be set up because King James I was to far away to govern them.
Jamestown was built on a swamp down stream of a river off Chesapeake bay. Indians were not hostile yet and n Smith was determined to keep it that way, so he married The indian chief's daughter Pocahontas, but eventually the Native Americans and europeans clashed.
I think that the reason it is surprising that Jamestown was successful because during the Starving times many people died of starvation, other people were murdered by indians or died of diseases. This settlement in this colony was only successful because people just kept coming in ever increasing amounts.
