Storyboard Description

DNA replication

Storyboard Text

  • Hey, Check us out! We're pretending to be DNA replicating! Wanna Play!
  • I totally want to. I'll be the enzymes Helicase that binds to pull DNA apart and Primase that binds to it after it comes apart.
  • We need a replication fork though to be the middle part that allows your DNA to replicate.
  • Look at me. I'm the lagging strand that runs 5' to 3'. We're already replicating! This is so cool! Thanks for being our enzymes!
  • Hahaha!! I'm standing on my head to be the leading strand, the complimentary strand running from 3'to5'. I feel a little light headed here!!
  • You guys are so funny! Okay so I know how to be the enzyme, polymerase, for the leading line to zip it up and bind it together. But I'm not sure how to zip up the lagging line. I can only go right to left.
  • Oh no! We better figure this out soon! The blood is rushing to my head!
  • Eeeek!!
  • Hey, I've been watching you guys and I have a solution for your replication problem. It's Okazaki Fragments. They will help bind the lagging line of DNA after replication.
  • Whew! I'm happy to be off my head! Am I replicated now?
  • Yes and No.
  • We thought it was as easy as separate and bind?
  • Well it is...
  • And it isn't...
  • The Nitrogen bases attach to the replicated complementary bases.
  • And hopefully it all goes smoothly with no mutations. Or we might be looking at an X-men thing happening soon! Just kidding!
