  • Hello, I'm Maximilien Robespierre and I was one of the leaders of the National Convention.
  • I'm going to tell you a little about the National Convention and how the First French Republic was founded.
  • What was the National Convention?
  • Today September 22, 1792, the National Convention was founded.
  • They believed that the Monarchy was not working and they needed to overthrow the King. They decided that they were going to form a republic.
  • The first act of the National Convention was to get rid of the monarchy.
  • First French Republic
  • The First Republic lasted until the declaration of the First Empire in 1804 under Napoleon, although the form of the government changed several times
  • One of the main reasons for the Monarchy to be abolished was because of the food shortages and economic crisis that led France into The French Revolution.
  • king louis xvi and Marie antoinette were executed because they were attempting to flee the country.
  • King and Queen Exacution
  • The end
  • Finally, The First Republic lasted until the First French Empire in 1804 under Napoleon I.
  • This made the National Convention more convinced to overthrow the Monarchy because the King and Queen were untrustworthy.
