Storyboard Text

  • Steph is new to school, and is constantly checking her phone, she doesn’t really feel at home here yet and is afraid she’ll miss something that’s happening back at home
  • I really should put the phone down, but I want to know what’s happening. What if I miss something?
  • She doesn’t have that much work to do yet, so she’d been spending a lot of time on Twitter, Instagram and Netflix
  • All of her assignments are online as well, so she finds herself using her phone both for functionality and out of boredom. It's affecting her sleep, and she's started getting neck pain.
  • She speaks to her advisor, Perry, who asks her what she thinks would help. She says she feels like she just absent-mindedly checks her phone all the time and she wants to be more aware of it. He suggests the WakeCounter app.
  • She downloads WakeCounter, which asks her about her goals, and alerts her with a simple count every time she gets to her wake screen. It helps her to realize just how many times she checks her phone every day!
  • How many times do I want to check my phone per day? Hmm…
  • Steph still checks her phone more than her goal of no more than 2x per hour, but she had been checking it up to 30x per hour! That awareness helped her to set the phone down, make some new friends and have a better time in school!
